Breast Reduction

Breast reduction surgery can alleviate the difficulties related to oversize breasts, specifically neck, shoulder, or back pain; the pain of bra straps digging into the shoulders; and limitations in physical activity. But you should be aware that breast reduction surgery is considered a reconstructive procedure, which means a fairly involved operation.

The incisions used, and the resulting scarring, depend upon the technique used. Breast reduction incisions can be as small as a line around the areola and one running midline down the inferior aspect of the breast. Or as large as an anchor-shaped line that runs vertically down from the nipple-areola-complex and across the fold under the breast.

A breast reduction is often done in combination with liposuction of the axillary region.

Of all reconstructive surgery patients, women who have a breast reduction are among the happiest with the outcome.
