Despite diet
and exercise, some fatty areas of
the body are resistant to improvement.
Liposuction can improve this by removing
unwanted fat deposits from certain
areas of the body. The
abdomen, flanks, and thighs are good
areas for liposuction, and in certain
cases the neck, arm, and knee areas
can be done as well.
The area
of the body that undergoes liposuction
will be much less likely to have
new fat accumulate after the procedure. However,
liposuction is not a cure for weight
gain in other areas, and the procedure
works best when followed by a healthy
diet and an effective regimen of
exercise.
Liposuction is often done in combination
with other procedures. For example:
liposuction of the neck is usually
done in conjunction with a facelift,
liposuction of the axillary region
may be done with a breast reduction,
and liposuction of the abdomen, hips,
or thighs may be performed with a tummy
tuck.

What to expect after your liposuction surgery:
- You should be on bed rest for the first day. You may get up to use the bathroom as needed. Wiggle your toes and feet to prevent blood clots in your legs.
- Begin eating light meals and progress to a regular diet as tolerated.
- Continue taking antibiotics as prescribed.
- Take any pain medication as prescribed.
- Keep incision sites dry for 48 hours, after which time you may shower.
- No baths or hot tubs for one week.
- Beginning the day after surgery; cleanse the incision sites with hydrogen peroxide, apply antibiotic ointment, and cover with a band-aid. This should be done daily for 7 days.
- You should expect some slight oozing from the incision sites- this is normal. Please call the office if you develop any of the following symptoms: redness, swelling, severe pain, cloudy drainage, shortness of breath, or dizziness.
- You should wear your garment continuously for 8-12 weeks and remove it only when showering or bathing.
