Dr. Goodman2020-10-07T13:03:13+00:00How long until the anesthesia wears off after surgery? Eyelid lifts or blepharoplasties can be done either under general or local anesthesia. If it is done under local anesthetic you are awake during the entire procedure. The local pain medicine usually wears off within a couple of hours. You should, however, have someone drive you to the appointment and take you home. If it is done under general anesthesia, you are usually awake an hour after surgery but the anesthetic effects may take a day or two to completely wear off. When can I go home? If it is done under local anesthesia, you can go home within 15 minutes. If the eyelid lift is done under general anesthesia, you will be able to go home in one hour. Either way, someone else should drive you home. How long until I can drive?
