How long until the anesthesia wears off after surgery? Eyelid lifts or blepharoplasties can be done either under general or local anesthesia. If it is done under local anesthetic you are awake during the entire procedure. The local pain medicine usually wears off within a couple of hours. You should, however, have someone drive you to the appointment and take you home.
