Dermal fillers: the secret to a more youthful appearance

2020-12-04T19:24:16+00:00

Like everything else in life, skin changes. As we age, fine lines, wrinkles and other facial issues begin to cause us to wonder how they occurred — sometimes seemingly overnight.   Because of a gradual loss of skin hydration and fat loss, tissue can begin to sag. Enter dermal fillers — something I heartily believe in to keep you looking great or even improve the way you look. Dermal fillers are essentially small injections of gel (typically made up of hyaluronic acid) that fill in wrinkles, add volume to soft tissue, or stimulate your own body to rebuild collagen. In addition to plumping up lips , I use dermal fillers in the jaw line to camouflage the jowls, correct the downturned corners of the mouth, fill in hollowed eyes, and even correct acne scarring. Fillers do more than fill in lines; they also lift by volumizing and when applied artfully can restore the effects of gravity on the soft tissue as you age. Judicious amounts of filler in key areas can also recontour the [...]

Ultherapy: achieving anti-aging from within

2020-10-07T13:02:57+00:00

When researching the in-office cosmetic services to offer in my practice, I searched for non-invasive procedures to help with anti-aging around the face, neck and upper chest areas — places many of us find change somewhat disconcerting as we age. There are a number of therapies, all with varying degrees of effectiveness and longevity. But none impressed me more than Ultherapy, a unique treatment that uses ultrasound technology to target specific layers of the skin, delivering natural-looking results that actually improve over time. Unlike other methods that freeze or zap cells, Ultherapy uses high energy-focused ultrasound to target specific layers within the tissues. This encourages the skin’s natural healing process and stimulates collagen production, in turn lifting and tightening the skin in the neck, brow, cheeks (jowls) or décolletage. Ultherapy is the only non-invasive FDA-approved treatment to tighten the skin, and offers remarkable results with virtually no downtime. Since there is nothing like a first-hand account, I recently asked a patient to describe her Ultherapy experience. “I was told in no uncertain terms [...]

Sculptra

2020-10-07T13:03:13+00:00

Facial fat loss is a normal effect of aging and can result in sunken cheeks, indentations, and hollow eyes. Sculptra® is a safe, synthetic, and biocompatible material that is injected below the surface of the skin in the area of fat loss. It provides a gradual and significant increase in skin thickness, improving the appearance of folds and sunken areas. No skin testing is required. Dr. Goodman recommends at least three treatments spaced 6 weeks apart to obtain the full benefit of Sculptra. The results from Sculptra are not immediate, but the final results can last up to two years. Package pricing is available. Sculptra® has been safely used outside the United States since 1999 in over 150,000 patients under the trade names New-FillT and Sculptra®. What to expect after your Sculptra® procedure: Treatment with Sculptra may cause redness or swelling in the treated area. This can last anywhere from a couple hours to one week. Apply ice to the treated areas for 24 hours to help with swelling and discomfort. Massage the [...]

Forehead Lift (or Brow lift)

2020-10-07T13:03:13+00:00

As you age, muscle tone diminishes in the forehead causing your eyebrows to droop and making the eyes appear smaller, more tired or sleepier than they actually are. A forehead lift or browlift is an operation that raises the forehead skin and eyebrows for a fresh, youthful look. The procedure not only improves the appearance of the eyes, but also eliminates or diminishes the age-related furrows, creases and frown lines above and between the eyebrows. Forehead lifts can be done in multiple ways. The standard coronal browlift uses an incision in the hair-bearing scalp to excise skin as the brows are lifted. The endoscopic browlift accomplishes a similar result with three to four small incisions in the hairline area. A temporal browlift can also be used; this operation involves smaller excisions of skin at the temple area to lift the lateral part of the eyebrows. The forehead lift is often combined with other facial procedures such as the eyelid lift, facelift, or injectable fillers. The best way to find out if you are [...]

Facelift

2020-10-07T13:03:13+00:00

To rejuvenate the lower face, a facelift procedure improves sagging facial skin, jowls, and loose neck skin by removing excess fat, tightening muscles, and redraping the skin. By lifting and tightening areas that are lax due to the natural aging process, one can gain a more rested and youthful appearance. Scars are hidden in the hairline and along the natural skin folds. Sometimes in order to achieve a youthful harmony in the face, the facelift is often combined with other facial procedure such as the eyelid lift, brow lift, liposuction or skin resurfacing techniques. Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty)

2021-02-26T20:21:18+00:00

An eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, removes excess skin and/or fat resulting in a rejuvenated more alert and rested appearance. Your eyes express much about how you feel and over time, due to aging, can make you appear tired and older than you actually are. With aging, your eyelid skin stretches, muscles weaken and fat can accumulate around the eyes causing "bags." An eyelid lift may need to be combined with a brow lift if heavy brows are contributing towards your heavy eyelids. In order to balance the face, a facelift may be done to achieve a youthful harmony. View the entire Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty) gallery here Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty) FAQs here What to expect after your surgery: You may experience double vision for several hours after surgery because of the local anesthetic solutions that are injected into the tissues. You will be allowed to leave shortly after your surgery is over. You must arrange to have somebody pick you up, as you will be unable to drive. When you return home, stay in [...]

Cosmetic Nasal Surgery

2020-10-07T13:03:13+00:00

Rhinoplasty is a surgery performed to correct external deformities of the nose and to improve the overall appearance. Septoplasty is the correction of the internal structures of the nose to correct nasal airway obstruction caused by deviation of the septum. Often, surgery of the nose will consist of a combination of these procedures. Essentially, nasal surgery is performed by removing any excess bone or cartilage and then reshaping the remaining structure. The changes may be subtle or dramatic depending on the patient. The first step is to come in for an initial consultation with Dr. Goodman. At that time you can discuss what your ultimate goals are and what it is realistic to expect. There are many different determining factors such as skin texture and thickness, previous injury and surgeries, individual variations in healing, and facial proportions and contouring. During the consultation your entire face will be evaluated and if there are procedures that may be used in conjunction with surgery, Dr. Goodman will discuss those options as well. The surgery would be [...]

Chin Augmentation

2020-10-07T13:03:13+00:00

A strong chin can create an image of physical beauty. Receding chins will imbalance the lower third of the face and break up the harmony of the nose-lips-chin relationship from the side view. Adding a chin implant or shifting the jaw bone into a better position can redefine your chin to enhance your overall appearance. A chin augmentation is often done with a rhinoplasty so that the nose does not appear so prominent. The best way to find out if you are a good candidate for a chin augmentation is to contact us and schedule a consultation with Dr. Goodman.
