Despite diet and exercise, some fatty areas of the body are resistant to improvement. Liposuction can improve this by removing unwanted fat deposits from certain areas of the body. The abdomen, flanks, and thighs are good areas for liposuction, and in certain cases the neck, arm, and knee areas can be done as well.

The area of the body that undergoes liposuction will be much less likely to have new fat accumulate after the procedure. However, liposuction is not a cure for weight gain in other areas, and the procedure works best when followed by a healthy diet and an effective regimen of exercise.

Liposuction is often done in combination with other procedures. For example: liposuction of the neck is usually done in conjunction with a facelift, liposuction of the axillary region may be done with a breast reduction, and liposuction of the abdomen, hips, or thighs may be performed with a tummy tuck.
